Definition
Ethernet Standards are official IEEE-defined rules that specify the speed, cable type, and distance limits for Ethernet networks.
What Problem It Solves
They ensure all network devices (switches, routers, NICs) can work together at agreed speeds and distances, regardless of manufacturer.
What Happens If Not Used
Without standards, devices would not reliably communicate because there would be no fixed rules for speed, cable length, or signaling method.
