Networking Standards Organizations
Definition
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) are global organizations that define technical standards and protocols so that network devices and systems from different vendors can communicate with each other.
What Problem It Solves
They create universal rules so that networking technologies work in a consistent way worldwide. Without them, each company would build incompatible networking systems.
What Happens If Not Used
Without IEEE and IETF standards, devices from different manufacturers (e.g., Cisco, Apple, HP) would not understand each other, making global networking and the internet impossible.
Easy Wording
They are organizations that make the “rulebook” for how computers and networks should talk to each other.
Layman Example
It’s like two organizations setting global rules:
- One sets rules for road design and signals
- Another sets rules for international communication language So everyone can travel and communicate anywhere without confusion.
